We protect our babies during their most vulnerable years with prenatal care, in utero surgery, vitamins, car seats, safety latches, electrical plugs, and baby gates, to name but a few. This list goes on and on. We do this because the safety of our children is our most important concern.
Imagine making a list of priorities in your life while you are pregnant. Imagine if that list included items placed above the life of your child. For some mothers, this list might look something like this:
- Pursue my educational goals
- Placate my boyfriend
- Continue my current lifestyle
- Pay my rent
- Protect my son or daughter
This list isn’t unusual. Over 50,000,000 lists like this are made by mothers carrying babies in their womb every year. That’s how many human beings are killed by abortion on an annual basis. To better comprehend this number, that’s over 153,000 babies killed in the womb each and every day. If that number is still incomprehensible to you, maybe this will help: over 6,300 innocent lives are terminated every hour.
Some will claim that millions of women will starve to death or go homeless if they don’t kill their babies before they are born (while it’s still legal). This is one of the greatest lies ever told. The safety nets available for desperate women carrying children are enormous and well funded. These resources are provided by both government and private entities, including public assistance programs, adoption services, maternity homes, and thousands of pregnancy centers across the world.
The truth is that the vast majority of women facing an unplanned pregnancy have the support they need, they just want to avoid a disruption to their current lifestyle or want a perfectly formed baby. These women add items to their list that include avoiding stretch marks, being able to continue drinking alcohol or doing drugs, or not wanting a child with a cleft palate or other challenges. Some will even kill their babies if they are not their or their partner’s preferred sex.
The primary goal of cultureshift is to re-prioritize these lists. In order to remedy the many flaws of our broken world, we must place the value of every innocent human life above all other considerations. Until this happens, millions more will die while awaiting their birth, and millions more will suffer in a culture that often values things above the lives of others.
