The first successful human open fetal surgery in the world was performed at the University of California, San Francisco, under the direction of Dr. Michael Harrison back in 1981. Almost 40 years later, surgeons have opened the womb and treated thousands of prenatal children for issues ranging from spina bifida to aortic valve obstruction.
These amazing photos demonstrate the incredible medical advances we have made, but they also demonstrate something far more important. They illuminate the humanity of children living in the womb.
The next time you hear someone claim that we weren’t alive or were nothing more than a clump of cells prior to our birth, ask them why we operate on these children while living in the womb. Then remind them that healthcare preserves human life while abortion destroys it.
