This is a quote from an email sent by NARAL ‘Pro-Choice’ America on December 5, 2017:
Republican leadership are ramming the Trump tax scam through as fast as they can because they don’t want the American people to know what’s really in it.
And one of the most odious secrets in the bill is “fetal personhood.”
The House tax bill includes a clause giving personhood rights to a fetus. While this provision was removed from the Senate bill at the last minute, anti-choice lobbyists will be pushing hard to get it into the final bill. Will you chip in $15 to defend reproductive freedom and keep fetal personhood out of the tax bill?
“Fetal personhood” has been the holy grail of the anti-abortion movement for years, but it’s never gone very far…
Birth didn’t make you a person, your conception did. There’s no such thing as a human that’s not a person and it’s time to codify this simple truth into law. The only reason NARAL stands in opposition to personhood for people is to enable the continued ability to legally treat them as property and kill them on demand and without apology. We once denied another group of people of their personhood and treated them as property. Shouldn’t we learn from history instead of repeating it?
From Dictionary.com:
hu-man
: of, pertaining to, characteristic of, or having the nature of people
hu-man be-ing
: a person, especially as distinguished from other animals or as representing the human species
per-son
: a human being as distinguished from an animal or a thing
To summarize: human = human being = person. What side of history will you be left standing on?
