In Defense of the Defenseless

As you gaze upon my image, please consider my humanity. I am where you once were. I am alive and I am valuable. Just as alive and just as valuable as you are. So why do I not possess any human rights? Why am I not a person like you?

Do you feel like you must deny my humanity — my personhood, to assure your rights as a woman? Did you know that I, too, will possess the ability to bear children like me? Did you know that all of the eggs that I will ever possess developed while I was still in the womb? That a special few of those eggs will someday become a human being like me? My rights and the rights of the children I will bear matter just as much as your rights.

All I ask is that you treat me like an equal. That you cherish and protect me. Do I deserve anything less than the best you can give? Abortion hurts me and those like me. Abortion takes away the most precious possession we all hold dear — our very lives. Please let me keep mine.

Please fight for me.
