Birth is always exciting, especially when it occurs in an environment so special and full of life as the ocean. Russian father Vladimir Bagrianski shared these beautiful photos of his pregnant wife and the subsequent birth of their four children in the sea, which took place between 1986 and 1992. The series was named “Sunrise at Sea”.

The births took place in different locations, but always with the ocean as the setting. The family is very attached to the teachings of the obstetrician and psychotherapist Igor Tcharkowsky, who pioneered water birth in 1963.

It is very natural to give birth in water especially sea water. It is almost identical to amniotic fluid. Before I had my daughter I played music for her and also played the sounds of the sea. After she was born I would play the same music and sea sounds while she was in her baby bath tub. She would actually smile and had the most peaceful look on her face. For a moment I believe that she had forgotten that she had been born and that she was still in the safety of her first home, the womb.
