Clinging to a Myth

anonymous:

you do realize that even if abortion becomes completely illegal, it’s still going to happen. it’ll just be 1000x more dangerous, there’ll be way more complications and a higher death rate for the mother. how does that make you feel, if you’re so “pro-life?” (since we all know that pro-life people care more about non sentient fetuses than they do about people who are already actually alive.)

cultureshift:

Consider this, since it’s clear that you haven’t…

  1. Rape, murder, torture, child abuse, kidnapping, sexual assault, battery, domestic abuse, and pedophilia still happen even though they are completely illegal. And it can certainly be argued that these atrocities are more complicated and dangerous because they are not legal. We don’t make inhuman acts illegal because we believe they will magically stop, we make them illegal to curb their practice and to declare that as a civilized people, there are certain choices we will not allow.

  2. How safe it is for a mother to kill her child is of little concern when compared to the safety of the child she is killing. Just as the safety of a husband killing his wife is of little concern when compared to the safety of the woman he is killing.

  3. You and I were actually alive when we were passing through our fetal stage of life, just like we were actually alive when we were embryos, infants, toddlers, and teenagers.

4. There are few people in this world more generous than those who are pro-life. It’s a lie to believe that we only care about a child prior to their birth and not after. It’s a lie to believe that we don’t care about the child’s mother. I wonder how long it’s been since you last helped a pregnant mother and her child? Never? It’s your lucky day — here’s your chance.
