Two new methods of engineering human beings has been developed involving three parents and holds great promise for those fearful of passing along genetic diseases and abnormalities to their children. There is only one problem – one of these methods kills a living human being so that another, more privileged human being can take what was theirs – healthy mitochondria. But there’s good news – one of these methods does not kill one in favor of another. It involves the transplant and destruction of an egg’s nucleus, not a fertilized human being.
It’s fine to support the ‘egg method’ of ‘three parent babies’. But it is wrong to destroy one human being in favor of another, more privileged human being, so we must oppose the ‘embryo method’.
