A 24-year-old pregnant Riverside County mother decided to forego potentially lifesaving chemotherapy after learning she had cancer, opting to put her preborn baby girl’s life ahead of her own.
Following the birth of Paisley in July, a full body scan revealed the cancer had spread throughout Ashley Bridges’ body, even into her brain. She was given just months to live.
“It wasn’t a choice to me. She’s first. I’m not going to kill a healthy baby because I’m sick…Her life is just as important as mine if not more important.”
UPDATE [June 23, 2015]: It is with a heavy heart that this update is made. Ashley no longer has to suffer. Her personal fight with cancer ended. The family picks up the struggle in the attempt to find a new normal. Ashley was literally surrounded by family and a few close friends when she peacefully breathed her last breath. She will forever be a hero to us all and especially to her precious daughter whom she gave her life to protect.
