I have received variations of this question many times and will now address it:

You can save one of the following from a burning building: 1) an infant; or 2) 100 frozen embryos. Which is it going to be?

If we knew for certain that the 100 frozen embryos would be implanted into a womb and birthed, then the answer is simple — save the 100 frozen embryos. Why? Because life begins at the moment the male and female gametes fuse, also known as fertilization or conception. From that moment until our last moment, we are the same human being. Our age, size, location, manner of conception, stage of development, nor level of dependency are relevant to our humanity.

Based on this understanding of when life begins, let’s restructure the question:

You can save one of the following from a burning building: 1) an infant; or 2) 100 toddlers. Which is it going to be?

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one.
