My biology teacher lost her daughter about seven or eight months into her pregnancy. She had wanted so much to be a mother and I can’t even imagine how heartbreaking that loss must have been for her. I felt so terrible for her – it was obvious just how deeply it had impacted her. This was not her first miscarriage, and by this point she had lost hope and was trying to adopt – but she was finding the process very difficult.

The next year I found out that my integrated science teacher was pregnant. Everyone expected her to get an abortion – the pregnancy was unplanned and she was in a difficult financial situation. I was more than a little upset by these assumptions.

She went full term and her baby boy was born. I was told by my English teacher that my integrated science teacher was not going to keep the baby.

She gave the baby to my biology teacher.

This was such a beautiful thing to do and has brought so much joy to both women’s lives. The little boy, Clay, is so healthy and happy and full of life. I am deeply saddened at the loss of other children who could have been cared for this way, who were lost to abortion.

I beg anyone who ever considers abortion to read this story and think about how you could change someone else’s – and your own – life for the better. Knowing that you gave the gift of life to a mother who could not realize it on her own is an extremely beautiful thing.

Thanks to birdhouseiys for sharing a beautiful example of what a culture of life would be like if everyone acted as selflessly as the woman in this situation did.
