Abortion is a difficult issue. I find it to be a politically intractable problem. We disagree at the metaphysical level. Neither side understands or pretends to understand the other side. It’s just demonization. Because we are in such disagreement, it’s not an appropriate role to use state coercive power to settle the matter.

— Robert Sarvis, candidate for governor of Virginia

If this reasoning were applied to American slavery, we would still see black men and women in shackles and chains, tied to trees as they are being whipped, and sold at auction to the highest bidder.

What we need is LEADERSHIP, not someone who throws their hands up because abortion is a ‘difficult issue’. President Lincoln fought tooth and nail to maintain the Union and end slavery through the coercive power of the state to settle the matter.
