Most abortions are not for convenience. If i was raped i would have an abortion because I don’t want to have a baby and i’m 13 yrs old, would you really expect me to go through that emotional trauma? Some women can be suicidal over their pregnancy. What about foetal abnormalities? And just this year a woman died because she was refused an abortion. Or a 14 yr old girl who was raped and suicidal. Just think about how she was forced to go through with the pregnancy. That is inhumane ^•^
What great questions from such a young mind. As you know, the issues surrounding human abortion are complex and present often conflicting moral dilemmas. Before we get started, I ask you to mentally take yourself back to the womb and consider whether you would like to experience the challenges and joys of life you have had thus far.
Now that we are on the same mental model, I will address your questions…
First, I must correct your assertion that most abortions are not for convenience. Over 93% of abortions are for reasons other than the health of the mother. That means that over 93% of abortions are performed on healthy mothers who are carrying healthy babies.
Yes, I would expect you to carry your child to birth and then either raise your child with assistance from your family or put him or her up for adoption. Remember, human beings your age are quite capable of bearing children by evolutionary process. The social stigma against females your age bearing children is just that, a stigma. Is this a situation I would ever want a person of your age to be in, absolutely not. I have met people who were conceived through rape and they are just as important as you and I and are happy to be alive, just like we are. They too have every right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Woman can be suicidal over many things, including family situations, relationships, or bullying. This is no reason to destroy another human being’s life. Professional assistance should be sought to work through these feelings.
For my take on fetal abnormalities, watch this video.
I am firmly in favor of abortion if the mother is in grave physical danger of losing her life. With today’s medical advances, this is a rare occurrence. In this situation, the mother must make the decision whether or not she will assume the risk.
I hope my answers provide some new things to think about. Ultimately, we must decide if we are human beings at conception or birth. See my blog for more insights into this question.
