Sometimes, in the annals of human civilization, the culture of a human society develops a cancer that attacks its morality. Just like a cancer of the body, it does not affect all organs, but eventually the organs that are affected shut down and kill the entire body. Without intervention, both from within the society and, when required, from external forces, the society will collapse into a moral abyss that swallows the human rights of all of its members.
Few arguments anger the abortion industry more than comparing abortion to genocide, especially the genocide waged by the Nazi German State against Jews, Roma, homosexuals, the mentally ill, the physically disabled, and several other groups. Adolf Hitler insisted in Mein Kampf that the weak or small had “no inalienable right to life”. This argument is the same used by pro-abortion groups in reference to prenatal children. The Nazi State encouraged abortion for non-Aryan races as part of their eugenics program to create a pure society. This later led to the outright killing of these groups.
Another argument routinely advanced by abortion advocates is that it is morally acceptable to kill the preborn because they cannot form thoughts or opinions and therefore are not persons. Infants are also unable to form thoughts or opinions, so by this logic, they too should not enjoy the protection of the law. As our society continues to decay in regards to its respect for the life of its offspring, the leap from killing prenatal children through their ninth month, which is currently legal in the United States [Doe v. Bolton], to the point that killing a child until they are self aware is alarmingly small.
Webster’s New World Encyclopedia defines genocide as “the deliberate and systematic destruction of a national, racial, religious, political, cultural, ethnic, or other group defined by the exterminators as undesirable.” Abortion targets a defined group of human beings for termination: the preborn. In many cases, these people are specifically targeted because of genetic abnormalities such as Down syndrome, which is clearly a form of genocide.
Our society will never be morally healthy until the cancer of abortion is surgically removed through legislation and we adopt a culture that rejects the killing of the weak and the small.
